I've wondered before whether we should try to organise something during Social Media Week in September? If we're refocussing the unconference on other things (eg brave HR) then this might be a good…Continue

Jon Ingham posted a statusAlong with Gareth Jones, I am a founder of the Connecting HR community.
In my day job, I am a consultant, researcher, writer and speaker focusing on strategic human capital management, HR 2.0 and management 2.0.
I help organisations gain competitive advantage through the creation of human and social capital supported by effective leadership, HR and management practices, OD interventions, and the use of web 2.0 / social media tools etc.
I have worked for 20+ years initially in Engineering, then IT, change management and finally in HR (including as an international HR Director for Ernst & Young).
I'm apparently the 23rd most influential HR thinker in the UK (thanks to those Connecting HR members who voted for me).

Alex Thomas said… Hi Jon! Thank you for the welcome. I haven't investigated the site fully yet however from what l have seen it looks really good.
I haven't read Critical Mass - l assume you recommend it as you are RE-reading it... :) The concept of looking at everything as a vibrating mass of molecules and atoms is something that l have never questioned and is simply fact to me. When you look at what appears to be solid through these new eyes then Ball's theory that we are simply a fluid of interacting molecules and atoms is absolute.
This must be even more fascinating for you Jon as a Social Media Expert you are interacting with others all over the world instantaniously. Doesn't that open the 'can' even further. The suggestion that thought is as fast as the speed of light might move social media to a whole new paradigm eventually...
Thank you for the recommendation - l will look to get a copy. :) I will leave you with one of my favourite quotes (& strangely it's not from Sir Clive Woodward's presentation)
"Nothing happens until something moves" - Einstein

Have you seen the new Google Plus communities? I think it's a really interesting feature which could give Google Plus a much needed boost.
I don't think we want a ConnectingHR community there, though I could be wrong. But my worry in us being there is that we just split the conversation even further - same reason we're not on Facebook. However I do have a ConnectingHR circle in my Google Plus account and I'll share this with everyone in the circle. That should help us use other…

I'm in Dubai next month for IIR's Middle East HR Summit, and have just been reviewing some of the blogs etc out that way. I thought this was particularly interesting - on HireMENA:
I can't say I agreed with all the recommendations (eg nixing boss employee friending?), but…

A radical approach to enhancing graduate employability
With thousands of graduates in the labour market it should, in theory, be easier to recruit talent. The reality, however, is that this can actually make it harder to identify and recruit graduates of the calibre your organisation needs. Even many exceptional candidates are missed by traditional recruitment processes and most applicants are getting little or no feedback, leaving them doubting their own…

No questions about the main event next week: #cipd11 of course.
I know lots of you will be up in Manchester for this, and others just joining in the twitter stream.
Gareth and I will also be delivering a twitterversity session for twitter newbies each day (1.00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10.15 on Thursday) and will obviously be promoting ConnectingHR. Please join us - at the event, or on the stream - for this, as the more conversation that's going on, the more likely it…
