Jon Ingham commented on Ed Scrivener's blog post 'Missing the social point'
My understanding was that this wasn't it - the key issue was that he mentioned a problem with embezzlement in Italy which he had sorted out - not the sort of thing any company would want to advertise. The issue which means the case is coming…

Not wishing to detract from our growth, but most recent joiners have been suppliers - it'd be great to get more practitioners on here too!

Pre-tweet-up meet-up

It'd be good to organise a Birmingham tweet-up group over the next couple of months but I'd ideally like for us to organise a smaller (face-to-face) discussion group (also in a pub, but without the intent to make this a particularly big group) first.Topics for discussion:-   Who do we know?-   Where will be good to meet? How about Wednesday 14th March?See More

One of the founders of the community - interested in connecting with other social minded people working in HR and related disciplines.

Bio

Along with Gareth Jones, I am a founder of the Connecting HR community.

In my day job, I am a consultant, researcher, writer and speaker focusing on strategic human capital management, HR 2.0 and management 2.0.

I help organisations gain competitive advantage through the creation of human and social capital supported by effective leadership, HR and management practices, OD interventions, and the use of web 2.0 / social media tools etc.

I have worked for 20+ years initially in Engineering, then IT, change management and finally in HR (including as an international HR Director for Ernst & Young).

I'm apparently the 23rd most influential HR thinker in the UK (thanks to those Connecting HR members who voted for me).

Hi Jon!  Thank you for the welcome.  I haven't investigated the site fully yet however from what l have seen it looks really good.

I haven't read Critical Mass - l assume you recommend it as you are RE-reading it...  :)  The concept of looking at everything as a vibrating mass of molecules and atoms is something that l have never questioned and is simply fact to me.  When you look at what appears to be solid through these new eyes then Ball's theory that we are simply a fluid of interacting molecules and atoms is absolute.

This must be even more fascinating for you Jon as a Social Media Expert you are interacting with others all over the world instantaniously.  Doesn't that open the 'can' even further.  The suggestion that thought is as fast as the speed of light might move social media to a whole new paradigm eventually...

Thank you for the recommendation - l will look to get a copy.  :)  I will leave you with one of my favourite quotes (& strangely it's not from Sir Clive Woodward's presentation)

"Nothing happens until something moves" - Einstein

Next week: CIPD conference, Twitterversity etc

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:28am 0 Comments

No questions about the main event next week: #cipd11 of course.

I know lots of you will be up in Manchester for this, and others just joining in the twitter stream.

Gareth and I will also be delivering a twitterversity session for twitter newbies each day (1.00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10.15 on Thursday) and will obviously be promoting ConnectingHR.  Please join us - at the event, or on the stream - for this, as the more conversation that's going on, the more likely it…

There are a couple of key events including CHR members on next week - on Tuesday it's Crexia's Social Workplace Conference #SWConf that I'm chairing and Doug is speaking at (as are Benjamin Ellis and Jenni Wheller who aren't on here yet but have been along to our tweet-ups).

On Wednesday and Thursday it's HR Technology (including social media) Europe in Amsterdam #HRTechEurope where I'm the emcee,  Bill Boorman, Peter Gold and others will be judges of an #italent technology…

HR and social media in Asia

Hope this note doesn't go against the community's Principles in the tabs at the top -  ie that we don't want people using this site to promote their services.

But one of our hopes (if not quite an aim) of the community has been that we will progressively expand internationally (indeed, we already have members here from the US and Switzerland and probably elsewhere).

So I thought I'd note that on Monday and Tuesday I'm running a workshop on HR and social media in…
