Notes from Charlie Duff!

Because we are totally radical, we made some notes. But probably not very good ones.

CHRU 3 meeting 1

Attending: Ailsa, Jon, Peter, Charlie, Mervyn, Gareth

Overview of last time
How much different and how much the same?

More formats needed - fishbowl etc
Pecha kucha is here to stay!

Mix it up - perhaps each time slot a different format

Suggestions: Artists? Live interaction? Live stream? Other formats? Drama? Graffitti artists?

Shout out to the community for creative skills

We need an icebreaker - world cafe networking

Decorate the space – zones? Beach, gym, office, garden...

Bring in unemployed etc to talk about the sharp end of HR - reconnecting must to the purpose of what we do.

How can we add more depth?
Pre-planning on tracks for deeper tracks advertised beforehand so there is some idea of what we will discussed. Outline of themes beforehand - electronic version of the grid?

Start this early – will help with sales etc

Political edge
Try to change something - publish paper etc - lobby
Unemployability

Our own community had been hit - their stories. Self employment, etc

Actions
Alisa- talk to Darius, bring in young people etc

Gareth - Investigate types of format, publish on the NingNangNong

Themes

Post apocalypse HR - after the riots

New ways to engage
How can HR take action
Anarchist HR
Immigration cap

The four HR horsemen...
The HR spring

What to do differently?

The un-structure
World cafe for icebreaker - ask a question each time, not so much for populating grid
Quickly grid, will be part populated already
Five different formats – one for each session
Energiser after lunch

Is there a demand for a social media surgery?

Community to develop something - data gathering, HR and technology, workshop, white paper

Case study: ConnectingHR changed my life

Suggestions?

Reach out to community again for icebreakers

Choral suggestion
on boarding of newbies

Marketing and the tickets debate

Give a discount for 'plus 1' invite - discount for 2 – bring someone not part of the crowd
Community needs to work harder to spread the word – we're looking at you, there

Practitioner must be one of the tickets

We should target a few people - Gareth seems to know a load of people, so he can do some of that. Any superstar HR requests, throw them in the forum

Suggestion:

Single tickets? £85 - £100 – if we sell singles at all...

2 people £150 by 5 Oct
200 after

More you bring the better! Whole HR teams etc
Group tickets?
Supplier/practitioner/commentator system

I'm sure everyone would appreciate your participation later in the evening, Alison.  And of course the daytime participation of two of your team.

Also, since you've come out of the closet, can I do the same?  It's simply going to be impossible for anyone to attend each of our events - even me and Gareth, well, me at any rate.  And I'm going to take my first unconference bye.

Well I might be there for some of it, but definitely not all.

I'll keep on promoting anyway (just doing something for Martin at Training Zone), and pitching in (sorry, slight mixed metaphor) behind Charlie to ensure everything gets organised in time.

And I'll definitely be there next time around.

And would love to attend part 2 of the Ailsa & Darius thing, if I've not missed too much.

Agreed - I will do a post this week. Also - I have my tickets - bought on a plus one so am bringing new blood!

Hi, an update on the Prince's Trust, who I spoke to again on Friday. Their business development team weren't really that keen on anything other than pure fundraising or looking it as a potential route to get into organisations via their HR people. Apparently they have plenty of mentors in London and SouthEast and they didn't really feel they needed any more in the way of practical help.

So, unless anyone disagrees it seems to me that we can be much more practically useful working with Darius and his team.  I'm a little disappointed re the PT, but I guess they have had a very high profile recently and its good that lots of people are already helping them.

On another topic, I am just about to pen a blog about the unconference and wondered what anyone (well, mostly Gareth and Jon) though about the possibility of doing a competition type thing for one free ticket for an HR practitioner who hasn't attended a #chru before? Its totally your call, but let me know soon-ish if you are happy with that idea. No worries if not.

A x

Good idea - go ahead! We might use the teaser of free tickets elsewhere too but go ahead and do something - approved!
Are we still definitely meeting up tomorrow? Monday 3rd?

Hi All

If we're still on for this evening where are we meeting? I kind of remember where that pub was but not what it was called.....

A

Hi Folks!  unfortunately i cant make it now - chiefly because i have to be at home to get the mailshot ready for tomorrow morning!   Im finalising the mailshot which will go out tomorrow - i just need to clean the list up and get the email ready.  I have 1000 people in the list - some of whom are in this community obviously, but 90% are not so that should provide a good shove.

Ailsa, happy to talk later today from home, but in principle the Darius stuff looks great so thumbs up from me on all accounts and suggestions.

Re catering - not fussed either way.  The veggie thing worked before but im sure sandwiches will too.  Change is as good as a rest so happy to go with that.  As long as it doesnt push the cost up though!

Where are we on 'sessions'? There was suggestion that we would have a little more structure and that we mihgt have multiple pecha kuchas from people - have we had any volunteers?

Promotion - Alison has done the free ticket blog which i think was a great idea.  I was also thinking that we could do a promotion a bit like 'tweetcamp' did - they offered their tickets free but you had to follow the tweetcamp twitter and they release tickets in batches throughout the day.  Could create a bit of excitement and following.

Movie - we are running out of time really for this but if i can put something together i will.  Charlie - have you got any footage i can have to try and knit together?

Media - Charlie, any update on the media side of things?

blogs - i will be doing a blog on the event as usual and will try and get that out next week.

OK, catch you all later.  Ill report back on the email later.

Thanks Gareth - I will firm up the session with Darius and will let them know sandwiches are ok - I guess they can't be more expensive than the food we had before but will check. We'll have to confirm the numbers closer to the time. Out of interest how many have we got so far?

I willalso do a blog and get it out next week.

Ax

Hi

I've confirmed for Darius to lead his session before lunch with his Grads and also have agreed with him that he will run an energiser session after lunch using Aikido. So we need to build that into our slots.

Sandwiches booked for lunch - have asked for costs.

Have told him he can promote his Just Giving text number - if he gets any donations all the better!

Hope that is all ok.

A

Sorry I haven't replied yet - media is partly in place, but when stuff is appearing I'm not sure. PTod have been involved with this week's #HRPerf Am also waiting on an article to come through but I understand Martin has been helpful on TZ.

I did do an update on pecha kucha, along with the grid, but didn't get much interest.  Shall we email the links to these out to everyone who has booked, or alternatively, set up another discussion for things that participants at the unconference need to know - including these - and then email people the link to that discussion?

By the way, we had also discussed promoting the use of a variety of techniques, eg fishbowl, but also ? and ?.  If we're going to do that, we should promote these at the same time...
