Notes from Charlie Duff!

Because we are totally radical, we made some notes. But probably not very good ones.

CHRU 3 meeting 1

Attending: Ailsa, Jon, Peter, Charlie, Mervyn, Gareth

Overview of last time
How much different and how much the same?

More formats needed - fishbowl etc
Pecha kucha is here to stay!

Mix it up - perhaps each time slot a different format

Suggestions: Artists? Live interaction? Live stream? Other formats? Drama? Graffitti artists?

Shout out to the community for creative skills

We need an icebreaker - world cafe networking

Decorate the space – zones? Beach, gym, office, garden...

Bring in unemployed etc to talk about the sharp end of HR - reconnecting must to the purpose of what we do.

How can we add more depth?
Pre-planning on tracks for deeper tracks advertised beforehand so there is some idea of what we will discussed. Outline of themes beforehand - electronic version of the grid?

Start this early – will help with sales etc

Political edge
Try to change something - publish paper etc - lobby
Unemployability

Our own community had been hit - their stories. Self employment, etc

Actions
Alisa- talk to Darius, bring in young people etc

Gareth - Investigate types of format, publish on the NingNangNong

Themes

Post apocalypse HR - after the riots

New ways to engage
How can HR take action
Anarchist HR
Immigration cap

The four HR horsemen...
The HR spring

What to do differently?

The un-structure
World cafe for icebreaker - ask a question each time, not so much for populating grid
Quickly grid, will be part populated already
Five different formats – one for each session
Energiser after lunch

Is there a demand for a social media surgery?

Community to develop something - data gathering, HR and technology, workshop, white paper

Case study: ConnectingHR changed my life

Suggestions?

Reach out to community again for icebreakers

Choral suggestion
on boarding of newbies

Marketing and the tickets debate

Give a discount for 'plus 1' invite - discount for 2 – bring someone not part of the crowd
Community needs to work harder to spread the word – we're looking at you, there

Practitioner must be one of the tickets

We should target a few people - Gareth seems to know a load of people, so he can do some of that. Any superstar HR requests, throw them in the forum

Suggestion:

Single tickets? £85 - £100 – if we sell singles at all...

2 people £150 by 5 Oct
200 after

More you bring the better! Whole HR teams etc

We've not yet agreed a physical regrouping of the planning group and probably need to do so.

Rather than propose a date myself, can I ask for suggestions from Charlie, Meryn, Ailsa and Jose - as the core team for this event.

As I am away from 6th October for a week It would be great if we could meet up next week - am suggesting Thursday 29th. Failing that could we say Monday 3rd October as it would give me a couple of days to action things before I go.
Can't make the 29th but can do 3rd....
I'm in Las Vegas then but you don't need me there anyway!  Charlie - are you going to be able to do this?
I am good for Monday 3 October. Can we go somewhere other than Square Pig please!
I can do the third - and my vote is for the quiet pub we saw round the corner on the way to the indian. What say you lot?

I think the other thing which is quite urgent now - and probably needs some action before the 3rd is some proactive marketing.

We've got 11 people booked so far which ain't bad but with 4 weeks to go, we need to keep things moving.

Things that I think have worked well in the past include:

-   Community members tweeting, RTing, blogging and promoting - it'd be good to see a bit more of this

-   Emails to those who have previously attended our events

-   Tweets (perhaps from @connectinghr) to HR practitioners - eg this list: @joningham/uk-hr-practitioners

Something that doesn't seem to have worked so well has been asking those people who have already booked on eventbrite to promote the event to their contacts - but again I think we should still try!
Are we putting the prices up in a week or so and can we get this information out now (an early booking discount, along with the mandatory +1 which we then dropped was something we agreed at the Square Pig)?
The more people who book now, the more that will also sign up later...
Hi Jon. I can do the email out to all previous registrants and also to my own small list. I agree, other #connectinghr members blogging and tweeting about it is essential son come on folks! Let's make that happen.

Charlie, Amy luck with media? We could really do with some of the key sites and publications doing a feature or mention.

Re tickets, not sure about moving to the +1 only if I'm honest. We have not announced an earlybird price so the only discount option is the +1

Are we really confident that if we only have that as an option people will buy? Not sure.

Today is the deadline for getting profile up and running on here to get a discount so lets trumpet that today.

Hello!

Media update - we have some movement when it comes to media with HRzone and Personnel Today. I need to get back to Rob Moss today, and I'm going to ask Martin today about TrainingZone and send Michael a message as well. I am also going to chase up HR magazine and also Training Journal.

Is there any point in trying PM? As far as I can tell, you people with access would be better off blogging about it inside the restricted zones. I don't have any contacts 'inside'...

We are going to need some extra support on this, I've already started roping some people in but if anyone is willing to write an article or has video footage with people speaking I'd like to hear about it - I've got some stuff with Beth Mayes from last time and general footage but anything else would be good.

Voulnteers to put together a few quotes and/or bylines also a must - please step forward, especially if your job title makes you sound (more) important - some journos are so fickle (sorry guys)...

Charlie

Hi Charlie, how about sending out a general tweet invite to people to join you, Mervyn and Ailsa at ? on Monday - get a few more people there and delegate a few tasks?

Where's Jose by the way - you may need to think about reallocating his role if he's not going to get involved in the planning...

I have some footage from last time.  I can cut into a movie like i did the last one - is your footage in easy to use format?  Its a doddle on a mac.  Ill review what i have tomorrow and let you know.

Mervyn / Charlie,

How's this as a pre-event grid?: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlIEE1lO1wkedDhQOC1VVj...

If you're happy with it, I'd suggest you announce it with the link in a new discussion in this forum (this discussion is getting rather long).  And I've suggested opening up to more session inputs in a couple of weeks time.

As a reminder, the purpose is firstly to save a bit of time on the grid completition and secondly to raise a bit more interest prior to the event - eg I'm hoping to add Vance to it shortly.
