Notes from Charlie Duff!

Because we are totally radical, we made some notes. But probably not very good ones.

CHRU 3 meeting 1

Attending: Ailsa, Jon, Peter, Charlie, Mervyn, Gareth

Overview of last time
How much different and how much the same?

More formats needed - fishbowl etc
Pecha kucha is here to stay!

Mix it up - perhaps each time slot a different format

Suggestions: Artists? Live interaction? Live stream? Other formats? Drama? Graffitti artists?

Shout out to the community for creative skills

We need an icebreaker - world cafe networking

Decorate the space – zones? Beach, gym, office, garden...

Bring in unemployed etc to talk about the sharp end of HR - reconnecting must to the purpose of what we do.

How can we add more depth?
Pre-planning on tracks for deeper tracks advertised beforehand so there is some idea of what we will discussed. Outline of themes beforehand - electronic version of the grid?

Start this early – will help with sales etc

Political edge
Try to change something - publish paper etc - lobby
Unemployability

Our own community had been hit - their stories. Self employment, etc

Actions
Alisa- talk to Darius, bring in young people etc

Gareth - Investigate types of format, publish on the NingNangNong

Themes

Post apocalypse HR - after the riots

New ways to engage
How can HR take action
Anarchist HR
Immigration cap

The four HR horsemen...
The HR spring

What to do differently?

The un-structure
World cafe for icebreaker - ask a question each time, not so much for populating grid
Quickly grid, will be part populated already
Five different formats – one for each session
Energiser after lunch

Is there a demand for a social media surgery?

Community to develop something - data gathering, HR and technology, workshop, white paper

Case study: ConnectingHR changed my life

Suggestions?

Reach out to community again for icebreakers

Choral suggestion
on boarding of newbies

Marketing and the tickets debate

Give a discount for 'plus 1' invite - discount for 2 – bring someone not part of the crowd
Community needs to work harder to spread the word – we're looking at you, there

Practitioner must be one of the tickets

We should target a few people - Gareth seems to know a load of people, so he can do some of that. Any superstar HR requests, throw them in the forum

Suggestion:

Single tickets? £85 - £100 – if we sell singles at all...

2 people £150 by 5 Oct
200 after

More you bring the better! Whole HR teams etc
Group tickets?

Replies to This Discussion

One of the other things we discussed was publishing the grid in advance of the day to get some sessions filled up and give people more of an idea about what they would be experiencing (but still keeping the majority of the sessions to be filled on the day?).  Does anyone have any thoughts about the best way of doing this?  I'd just suggest a Google Docs table linked to from here, but there may be better ways...?

By the way, we also talked 's about getting some 'names' signed up and on the grid early - not that they would be 'speakers' in a traditional sense, but people that more of the broader HR community would understand have some interesting views.  I talked to Vance Kearney about it at HR Mag's Most Influential event and he's put it in his diary (under Jon Ingham - nutter!).

Also David Woods from HR Magazine will be coming.
Ooh. I love David!
Hi John, Well done for bending Vance's ear - the more like that the merrier!  Are there others on your radar?
Are we tempting these people with free tickets?
I'd say they get a free ticket if they bring one of their team who pays for a ticket at list price?  What say you?
Agreed.  The principle should be everyone pays equally, but let's be flexible with people like Vance - if they attract others, it's worth having them there.

Yes - I just need to get a minute to get in touch with them.

I'll be attending the CIPD's OD conference on Wednesday and Thursday where they'll be having a go at open spacing.  If they all enjoy it, I hope to sign up some of them too.

I was thinking Google Docs... (someone help us think outside the docs)

Hello - I'm putting the press wheels in action.

Cath at HRzone would perhaps like to interview HRDs or will take an article from someone in the community, probably practitioner only... but she can't come.

I'm ringing Rob Moss this afternoon. Pretty back to back at work right now but I'm trying to squeeze it in when I can.

Michael is not interested in presenting but I hope he will come along.

Need to work on

Media

Names to invite

Publicity etc

Am moving home again this weekend (and some of next week) so may not be around, but I'll work on it while I can and get back to you...

Hello Peeps.......am meeting Darius next Thursday evening - will report back!
