This sounds great Jon, I would definately like to be involved with a Birmingham one!
The need to support some face-to-face connecting outside London was once again raised at the London tweet-up last week.
At the champion group's planning meeting last year, we suggested starting regional groups / tweet-ups in Birmingham and Manchester (given recent social media sessions here at the CIPD conference and HR Directors Business Summit).
I'm going to set up separate groups to support our activities in these two cities, and hope to get tweet-ups underway over the next few months.
We obviously don't want to canibalise our efforts (so a Coventry group would probably be a bit much for example), but if anybody does want to support the development of other regional groups, eg in Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh, or national groups eg in Dublin, Geneva etc, then you'd be very welcome too.
We may also need to revisit our charging models for these, but as long as more tweet-ups lead to increased attendance at our unconferences, we should be OK.
I suggest this group then becomes somewhere where we can share learning etc across these regional groups.
